A Sunday Afternoon Church Near N.C. A&T

It is close to one in the morning in a room off East Market Street. There is a lab report due Tuesday, and a text from home that keeps asking the same thing: “Have you found a church up there yet?” So the phone comes out, and the search goes in: church near A&T.

This is that church. Abiding Love Church worships every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in downtown Greensboro, a short drive west of campus.

Sleep in. Church starts at 2.

Saturday nights in college run long. A 2:00 p.m. service means you can sleep, eat, get dressed without rushing, and still walk in before worship starts. Service lasts about 90 minutes to two hours, so you are back on campus with most of your Sunday evening still yours.

One of your pastors is an Aggie

Prophetess Lauren Huggins earned her psychology degree at N.C. A&T in 2007 and her nursing degree there in 2010. She co-pastors Abiding Love with her husband, Pastor and Prophet Micah Huggins, who gave his own life to Christ as an 18-year-old college freshman across town.

After service, both of them stay to meet guests. Come say hello. Ask a question. Or just tell them it was your first time.

What a Sunday here is like

Abiding Love is prophetic, and the Bible is preached from the King James Version.

Here is what you should know before you walk in, so nothing catches you off guard. Sometimes God puts an encouraging word on the pastors’ hearts for someone in the room, and they may ask that person to stand or come forward so they can share it personally. A pastor may ask whether you would like prayer; you are free to say no. An offering is taken, but guests are never asked personally for money.

Getting here from campus

Come in on John Wesley Way. A greeter is at the door. Street parking is available on West Market Street, John Wesley Way, West Friendly Avenue and Commerce Place.

No car? Greensboro Transit Agency buses connect campus and downtown. Check the GTA Sunday schedule before you head out so you know when the bus runs.

Thursday nights, from your room

Bible Study meets on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursdays at 7:15 p.m. on Zoom. You can join from your dorm, a study room, or wherever you land that night.
